Aize Cao joined the faculty at Meharry in January 2021. She is a biomedical informatician and data scientist with extensive experience in large-scale health care data. Her research focuses on patient health outcome predication and health quality improvement, by leveraging the applications of descriptive statistics, predictive analysis and machine learning techniques on Electronic Health Records (EHR).
Dr. Cao was previously a research assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Her focus there was patient liver cirrhosis risk prediction and national Veterans Affairs (VA) EHR OMOP common data model transformation. Before that, she supported mental disease studies on neuroimage analysis at the Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS). She has participated in a variety of projects covering a wide range of medical and clinical applications after her postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt.
At Meharry, Dr. Cao seeks to better understand health care service outcomes and address clinical decision support for underserved population. She will focus on advancing health care informatics and predictive models in helping with patient health improvement. A complete list of her publications is available online.
